funeral

Today marks the three years since Sean's funeral. It was the first funeral I had to attend. In all my years I have never been to an actual funeral . . . gone to visitation (not willingly) and a graveside service but never to a funeral. I was thinking about some things that I remember about those days leading up to the day . . .

-seeing Sean for the first time, total shock
-picking out a plot on Thanksgiving
- seeing the in-laws for the first time after the news
- eating pizza in the hotel lobby corner with a few friends
-over hearing my MIL announce my SIL was pregnant again (was so hurt no one told me)
-watching all the people at the hotel (the entire hotel was full of family and friends) mingle around and almost like a family reunion atmosphere
-seeing Carrie drinking those yummy milk shakes
-escaping to Gina and Beth's room to just talk
-trying to avoid getting dressed
-Jon D. coming extra early to make sure I got ready
-buying a wedding ring for Sean to be buried with
-trying to avoid any photos
-people . . . so many that I had not seen in years and wished it was a happier occasion
-weather, hot, humid, cold, rainy; only in Texas
-sitting right next to Sean's body but feeling so very far away
-remember being glad it was over but not sure why
-cards, there were hundreds

A day does nott go by that I do not think of you. My husband worked with Sean in Vilseck and greatly admired. You and Colin are always in our prayers. You are a strong woman! Keep it up!

heidi-
have you had one of those milkshakes that i was always drinking? they really are wonderful! (could've been the whole pregnancy thing)! i can't tell you how many times i craved that same milkshake when i was pregnant with claire!
thank you for sharing your heart. something in my spirit knew something was sad about this day- and when i checked your blog i confirmed that inkling.
i appreciate your ability to look back and recall what that time was like for you. it helps us all heal.
you may not know it- but so many of us watch you and stand in amazement at how you have handled it all.
your story even reaches and touches people who don't personally know you, too.
thank you for being a light to all of us and reminding us of what is truly important.
words are hard to come by.
we love you,
carrie
