quick
Okay so The Amazing Race has been on for several weeks and I have not even posted one thing about it . . . I just had to write something about a more recent episode. I think it will go down as a memorable moment for many years . . . when Canaan tried to push Mika down the water slide in Dubai, was that funny or am I just mean? I still think the cheese rolling episode last year in Switzerland was pretty funny too . . . I am not sure who is my favorite team yet . . . they all seem so nice to each other.
Okay off to work on the Halloween costume that still isn't finished.

behind; what's new?
So Halloween is in 8 days . . . I always love making the costume but this year all my ideas were shot down. The kiddo had his own ideas and well guess who won? So can you guess what he wanted to be this year?
And literally that is what the costume looks like right now . . . just a pile of 'stuff' waiting to be put together. This is the first year it has been a no-sew costume . . . I'm certain he will be adorable and it sure beats a Power Ranger or Ninja Turtle . . . not knocking those but not a fan of characters. Okay back to cleaning . . . since I was sick last week so much to do around this house . . . the windows are open and loving the cool breeze that is filling the house!

looking for
So my digital camera is starting to act frazzled . . . that means I am on a search for a new one! I am looking for one with a zoom but not sure I am ready to buy a DSLR . . . hey I am cheap you know. Any suggestions? Any to avoid? Thanks in advance . . . as I really don't have the time to spend hours doing research . . . just want someone to tell me what I should buy, LOL.

a first
Today was my first parent-teacher conference as a parent . . . man it sure was nerve racking being on the other side of the table! I always enjoyed conferences as a teacher and getting to know a little bit about the family of the kids I spent my days with. I had been making a list of things to discuss during our meeting . . . for some reason it was asked about Colin's father . . . and I started crying. It still amazes me that almost five years later I still get teary eyed. I think the biggest tear jerker for me is the thought that Colin missed out on a life without his father and that breaks my heart. While I have managed to move on with life it will always be a part of me and I am certain a topic that tugs at my heart. The teacher had no idea . . . I think she still has no idea that I am a teacher either and I plan to keep it that way, LOL.
All in all the conference went well . . . I think he has a great teacher . . . strict, very strict . . . but that is probably what he needs! We are still plugging along with our letter sounds and someone is more interested in trucks and trains . . . we will get there. Now report cards come out in 3 weeks . . . it is Kindergarten after all so will be interesting to see how he does.

Cowboy Colin
Again, still off the wagon so to speak when it comes to blogging . . . I swear one day I am going to post something that will just knock you off your rocker, LOL! Today was 'Western Wear Day' at school in honor of the fair . . .

. . . well we don't have much western wear in our house but hey it was something. Today I joined Colin for lunch! Quick side comment . . . his school has this security check system where they scan your driver's license before you are allowed to enter . . . guess it helps keep people out who aren't suppose to be around kids if you know what I mean . . . it was really cool! Anyway . . . as I left, I asked myself why I haven't been doing this more often? Who knows but now will of course. I don't post much on here about his school days as it always seems to come back and bite me . . . he is learning and that is what is most important. Of course he is still having good days and bad days. The bad mom continues to remind him (okay lecture) to be wise when picking friends and to stay awake from the trouble makers especially one kid that is always on red . . . hey why not?
Tomorrow is the Lowe's Build and Grow clinic . . . man talk about missing out! I had read about this for a long time on Big Blueberry Eye's blog but Colin did not meet the age requirement. So one day while in Lowe's I asked about it and they said of course he can come as long as I stay with him and help him! WOW, he has a great time and the best part was it is FREE! Yes, it cost nothing and they give each child protective eye wear, a worker apron, the project kit, and a badge when they complete the project! FREE and we both have FUN too . . . oh they only have supplies for the first 50 kids so plan to arrive on time. Here is a photo from the first clinic a few weeks ago . . . they built a wooden drum . . . what was I thinking? Colin is always asking when his next project is so we always make a point to be there.

Happy Fall
Okay so it sure doesn't feel like fall, but I have pulled out all the decorations . . . still need to put more out but hey it is a start!

. . . oh I can't wait to get started on the Halloween costume . . . oh and this year my idea got shot down . . . when did 5 year old start getting an opinion? So I let him pick . . . man I guess my thoughts and ideas are a thing of the past!

oh my!
Today I picked Colin up at school so he could go get his last immunization for school . . . number 7 and hopefully the last one for many years! We were driving and the big ass truck next to me started getting closer and closer (was probably talking on his cell phone) so I laid on the horn . . . this is what was said next . . .
C: Mom, why did you honk that horn?
H: because the man in that truck was driving like a crazy man and getting in my lane
C: Oh, you mean a moron
OH MY GOODNESS, I about died . . . I just said sure and continued to smile so big . . . that's my boy! I swear you never know what will come out of a kid's mouth!
